Earlier this morning a colleague and I discussed the idea of encouragement, and how important it is that we know how to build up others with our words and actions. The hard part about this is that we’re all different, and what really speaks to my heart might not make a dent in yours. As Coaches, do we know how to encourage the different athletes and other Coaches in our lives? I don’t know anyone who dislikes kind words or the occasional “attaboy/attagirl”, but some of us need a different touch.
I’ve committed to finding out how to best encourage the people God’s put in my life: my family, Coaches, co-workers and friends. How do we do that? I’m going to pray for God’s leading, and I’m also going to flat out ask people, “What makes you feel encouraged?”
I’m also going to take the bold step of letting people past my ultra-manly, tough-guy exterior and share with them how best to encourage me. Scary? Maybe a little, but it’s about time.

Slightly Obscure 80’s Lyric of the Week
Who’s gonna pick you up
When you fall?
Who’s gonna hang it up
When you call?
Who’s gonna pay attention
To your dreams?
Who’s gonna plug their ears
When you scream?
