On the surface, this post might not seem to have a ton of direct applications to coaching, but it does. It does because the idea of generosity gets right to the heart of why we exist.
We see needs all around us. This time of year we hear the bells ringing outside of the stores, and the toy drive containers call out to us as we walk inside. You have probably received dozens of appeal letters from various charities in the past month — pretty much all of which are doing important, valuable work that helps people. With all those people and organizations asking, what are we supposed to do?
I certainly am not the one that has this all figured out. I am not the world’s number one example of a generous giver, but I do know this much. I have never, ever given something away and lived to regret it. It’s not happened even once. I suppose if we tried really hard we could find someone, somewhere who gave generously and later wished they hadn’t, but I’ve certainly never heard a story like that from anyone. Ever.
Try it. Give a little (or maybe a lot) extra somewhere this week. Buy a toy, provide a meal, make a donation, whatever it might be. You won’t regret it. The reality is this: we have a God who is infinitely generous, and who literally never stops giving. Created in His image, our calling is to give, give and then give some more.
For you Coaches out there, we at CFC say thank you for all you give. Thank you for giving your time, energy, money, love and more to our children and their families.
May you have a very Merry Christmas.
