One of the things I love most about sports is the way it brings people together. Is there any activity in the world that involves a larger or more diverse group? I doubt it.
The other day a friend emailed me this article about MLS player Michael Lahoud. Born in Sierra Leone, rescued at a young age from a civil war, and reunited with his parents in the US, Michael’s words are powerful, and you’ll be glad you decided to click the link as you enter into his story. As I read the article, beyond the obvious turmoil, pain and ultimately, triumph, I thought about how one simple athletic act, kicking a ball, led to Michael’s world beginning to come together again.
Sports are a tool with the power to change lives in ways we can’t fathom. Let’s keep our eyes open for opportunities to see those lives reached. Let’s teach the young people we serve to keep their eyes open as well.
