Enthusiasm

by Ryan Krzykowski (with an assist from Ralph Waldo Emerson)

I’ve been thinking about leading people toward greatness — accomplishing something remarkable, whether as an individual or part of a larger group.  And I can’t remember where I first saw it, but my mind kept coming back to an Emerson quote from the 19th century.  He might not have ever watched a football game, and he probably would struggle to envision the sports landscape of the 21st century. It doesn’t matter, as there’s little doubt he was brilliant and perceptive, and spent a great deal of time and energy observing and seeking to understand the world around him.  That being the case, I’m convinced this has merit.  It’s something I’ll be intentional about remembering and sharing with those I’m tasked with leading:

Enthusiasm is one of the most powerful engines of success. When you do a thing, do it with all your might. Put your whole soul into it. Stamp it with your own personality. Be active, be energetic, be enthusiastic and faithful, and you will accomplish your object. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

Happy Thanksgiving, and
