Tragic Story – Happy Ending?

by Ryan Krzykowski

This week’s post was originally going to be about something practical for coaches, some thoughts about how to more effectively cultivate a positive environment when your team competes.  That can wait.

I was also going to include a plug for the CFC Coaching With Purpose workshop to be held in Overland Park, KS on Thursday 7/12 from 1-3 PM.  Information and registration for that free session are here.

But last week I caught a news story that grabbed my attention and broke my heart.  As of this writing, the situation has not yet reached its resolution.  By the time this post is published and promoted, I am incredibly hopeful that the story will have a happy ending.

Maybe you have caught this and maybe you haven’t, but people throughout the world have been captivated by the story of a Thailand youth soccer team — twelve boys ages 11 through 16, along with a 25-year old coach, who have gone missing inside a cave in the northern part of their country.  Apparently after a practice, they decided to go explore the cave together, not realizing that the cave would soon flood and they would be trapped.

As I’ve read news items (like this one) about the team and the search, I can’t help but imagine the terror these young men are experiencing as they fight for their lives.  And I ask you to join me in praying for their successful rescue.

Hopefully we will hear good news very soon and be inspired by stories of these brave kids and the heroes who are working to bring them out alive.
