So one of the big stories in the US was this powerball drawing a couple weeks back. And apparently Mark and Cindy Hill of Dearborn, Missouri were awarded a check for over $293 million. Wow, that’s a lot of money. The taxes alone from those winnings might keep us from going over the fiscal cliff.
Last weekend I was talking about that prize with a group of middle school kids. And in our conversation, I asked a question like, “what would be worth more, having a relationship with Jesus or winning powerball?”
It was one of those questions that we know the “right” answer to, but later that day it got me thinking. If I won $293 million, it would be easy to feel like pretty much every problem was solved. There would be virtually nothing money can buy that I wouldn’t be able to get my hands on.
And yet, if I had to choose between Jesus and $293 million, I know I would choose Jesus. So, utilizing my logic skills, that means that the value I place on having Christ in my life is worth more than $293 million. In fact, I know wouldn’t trade Christ for $293 trillion. In Christ, I am a child of God and co-heir of God’s Kingdom (Romans 8). I have been lavished with the “incomparable riches of God’s grace” (Ephesians 2).
So in essence, I have something that I believe to be worth more than any dollar amount imaginable. That’s a big deal when I consider how excited I would be about having $293 million. But I know that what I have is better. Wow. Definitely something to keep in mind as I live each day.
Good Stuff… pretty sure the money we all think would erradicate our cares, fears, and concerns pales in comparison to the riches we have to look forward to in heaven. Like a King!! Inheriting what the King of Kings has through our relationship and accepting the gift Christ offers fromt eh cross.
